As the first official model from Porsche, the 356 was a pretty good first dip into the proverbial global automotive pond. Porsche would eventually release successive versions with major improvements with each new iteration, designated by the letters A, B, and C appended to the model name. The last was the 356C offered during the final two years of production from 1964-1965, that happened to overlap the first two years of production of its baby brother and soon-to-be iconic model, the 911.
The C would add disc brakes at all four corners, an optional more-powerful 95 hp SC engine, and a more visceral driving experience relative to the heavier and more refined 911 it competed with for buyers. The Porsche 356 is considered one of the top sports cars of the 1960s and it’s fairly easy to see why given its purposeful good looks, all-around performance, and the hand-built quality of Porsche.
Up for grabs is a beautiful Ruby Red over black 356C that appears to be well-maintained. With the benefit of a new paint job in 1998, she shines like new, and the interior matches the luster of the exterior with slippery vinyl seats, neat carpet, and clean switchgear.
What makes this car even more appealing is a recent top-end engine rebuild to SC specs to give it some get up and go. For a clean matching numbers car and relatively low miles, the $59,500 asking price seems reasonable and it is currently for sale at Mohr Imports.
