1990 Porsche 911 RSR Tribute

If the 1970 Porsche 911 RSR tribute car we featured previously is to your liking but you prefer the modernity and creature comforts of later-model Porsches, maybe this 964-based young athlete in old-man’s clothing is just the right ticket for you.

The Porsche 964 911 represents a bit of a watershed moment for the 911 model as it introduced more modern mechanicals such as anti-lock brakes, power steering, a bigger-displacement and more-powerful 3.6 engine, and true coilover suspension. It was also the first 911 to be offered with all-wheel drive to help tame the infamous oversteer characteristics of the 911 in corners.

Creature comforts also improved with a better HVAC system that actually worked, more sound deadening for quieter interior NVH, cruise control, and an overall more refined ride while maintaining the desirable quirkiness of air-cooled 911s. Although not necessarily a true vintage car, this 1990 Carerra 4-based RSR offers vintage looks combined with more modern performance and safety.

Wrapped in turbo flares, RSR bumpers, longhood, duck tail, tasty chocolate brown interior, and blue 17″ Lindsey Fuchs-style wheels, and classic Carrera script graphics, this C4 looks quite dapper in its old-school livery. It also packs some major performance with an uprated suspension, supercharged engine, performance chip, and sport exhaust all good for 350 hp. It’s the best of both worlds for the enthusiast that wants to have the special air-cooled 911 experience without sacrificing comfort and reliability. This brawny beast is offered for sale by Park Place for $58,950.

1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 RSR Tribute. Featured in the April 2007 issue of Excellence Magazine, this RSR tribute began life simply enough as an all-wheel drive Carrera 4 Type-964 911, but has been completely transformed into a genuine performance coupe worthy of the RSR moniker.

It is finished in classic Grand Prix white with blue Carrera graphics and all of the iconic visual cues of the original RSR — deep front spoiler, RSR bumpers, super wide fender flares and “ducktail” rear spoiler- translate instantly. The standard 3.6L 964 flat-six has been supercharged and upgraded with a performance Eurosport chip and custom GHL exhaust for an estimated 350hp at the wheels. The engine is paired with a G50 5-speed manual transmission and the car rides on blue 17″ Lindsey Racing 2-piece custom Fuchs. Performance Bilstein sport shocks and upgraded H&R springs been added to enhance performance while maintaining a comfortable ride.

All of the creature comforts of a 964 are preserved including air conditioning, full leather interior, power adjustable leather seats, cruise control and sunroof, and an upgraded Sony audio receiver and carbon fiber trim have been added. We have a binder full of information and records for this 911 on file alongside the Excellence Magazine article. This RSR tribute is unique in that it hearkens back to the iconic look and performance of the classic racecars with the added reliability of a modern 911. If you’re a classic Porsche enthusiast, you owe it to yourself to see this one in person.
